Top Down

  • The American author, Stephen King, the master of creepy stories, recognizes that there are three types of terror. Read them and match them to the 4 texts.

A) The Gross-out: the sight of a severed head tumbling down a flight of stairs, it’s when the lights go out and something green and slimy splatters against your arm.

B) The Horror: the unnatural, spiders the size of bears, the dead waking up and walking around, it’s when the lights go out and something with claws grabs you by the arm.

C) The Terror: the worst of all, it’s when the lights go out and you feel something behind you, you hear it, you feel its breath against your ear, but when you turn around, there’s nothing there.

Text 1

My daughter said there was a monster inside her closet. Sweet innocent girl, it was only our neighbor looking after her through a hole in the wall. And I didn’t even ask him to do it. It is impressive how the neighborhood gets worried about our family’s safety.

Text 2

I usually get dressed before having breakfast, I always here a whisper telling me what to wear. It’s like feeling what the world wants to see me wearing.

Today the ‘world’ was quiet, so I chose anything. I got home and there was a note written, “sorry, but it’s time for you to dress by yourself.”

Text 3

I finally got into a good position under my bed covers. It couldn’t get better. Until I felt something cold and sticky on my feet. I got nervous. It could be a monster.

It was a frog.

Text 4

Suddenly my bedroom got cold, the lights went off and my music stopped playing and all I could hear was someone saying, “Hi, I’m Chucky, wanna play?”

I was sure that was my last minute alive.

Little did I know, my father was watching Child’s Play on his phone in the other room, my bedroom bulb burned out, and the playlist ended.

I’m not sure what scared me the most: the near-death experience or the coincidences.
